NINE in 10 people responding to a fresh community consultation on Casement Park support its redevelopment, the team behind the GAA stadium project has said.

Ulster GAA launched the process earlier this year ahead of submitting a new planning application to construct a provincial stadium at the west Belfast ground.

Of the 1,989 responses 91 per cent were in favour of the redevelopment project with eight per cent opposed and one per cent not commenting.

Tom Daly, chairman of the Casement Park Project Board, welcomed the response to the consultation so far.

"There have been excellent ideas and proposals emanating from the local community," he said.

After years of problems and delays with the project, the GAA hopes to lodge a new planning application later this year and finish construction by the end of 2019.
