A WOMAN and three children have narrowly escaped injury after an arson attack in south Belfast.

Police have appealed for information after a fire in a house on Ormeau Embankment in Belfast early on Saturday morning.

Flammable liquid was poured through the letterbox of the property at around 6.20am and set alight.

Police and NI Fire and Rescue Service attended and the scene fire was extinguished.

Damage was caused to the inside and outside of the front door as a result of the attack.

A woman, aged in her 30's and three young girls who were in the house at the time were not injured but left shaken by their ordeal.

The woman, who did not wish to be named, said she'd "no idea" why she'd been singled out for attack and could think of no reason why her home was targeted.

Detective Sergeant Natalie McNally is appealing for anyone who was in the area of Ormeau Embankment early on Sunday morning and who witnessed the incident or anyone with any information that can assist with the investigation to contact Detectives at Musgrave Police Station on 101.
