A SCRAMBLER-style motorbike has been stolen from a council service yard at Falls Park in west Belfast.

Sets of keys for machinery and a black hybrid bicycle and were also stolen in the burglary.

It happened on Wednesday night at Falls Park at a locked yard run by Belfast City Council.

Police are investigating the break-in.

It comes amid heightened safety concerns about off-road vehicles such as scramblers following the shock death of Valerie Armstrong.

The mother-of-three was struck by a scrambler motorbike on Tuesday night near Mila's Lake in Colin Glen Forest Park.

A spokesman for the PSNI yesterday said the 'pit' bike, which is similar to a scrambler, that was stolen from the yard was broken.

"Police in west Belfast are investigating a burglary at premises in Falls Park, sometime yesterday evening, Wednesday July 20," he said.

"It was reported that sometime yesterday evening entry had been gained to a locked yard and a number of items, including a black coloured hybrid bicycle, a broken 'pit' bike and sets of keys for machinery were stolen."

Police urged anyone with information to contact officers in Woodbourne on 101 or anonymously through Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

It's understood the broken pit bike was found dumped near Falls Park and was later moved to a scrap pile in the council service yard.

A Belfast City Council spokeswoman said: "We can confirm that a service yard at Falls Park was broken into yesterday evening. Police are investigating the matter."
