A CO Tyrone father-of-two who died days after a workplace accident was last night described as a "gentleman".

Stevie McTeague (51) died in hospital on Saturday from his injuries after being trapped under machinery in Killyclogher on Thursday afternoon.

Originally from Omagh, he had just moved with his family to the Loughmacrory area six months ago.

He worked for Terex Finlay and it was at their site on the Cookstown Road where tragedy struck.

In a family notice, wife Helen (nee Hanna), children Conor and Ryan and their extended family paid tribute to him as a "beloved husband and devoted father".

Sinn Fein councillor Anne Marie Fitzgerald said Mr McTeague's death had come as a huge shock to the community.

"Steven was a lovely quiet, family-orientated man, genuine, hard-working and low-key.

"He had a young family and it just has come as a shock to us all," she said.

"It's an awful tragedy, they had a new house and were starting a new life in a new area and for it to be cut short in this way is heart-breaking.

"It's just terrible and from what I can gather from his nature he was just a quiet gentleman."

UUP MLA Ross Hussey described the father-of-two's death as a "very sad event".

"My deepest sympathy to the family of this young man - we all need to think of this family in their loss," he said.

Mr McTeague was a keen photographer and snooker player.

A Facebook post by the Omagh and District Snooker League said he was a member from a "very young age" and offered condolences to the family.

Two men were were trapped under machinery at the Terex facility, which manufactures quarrying and recycling machinery, at around 3.20pm on Thursday.

The other injured man was later discharged from hospital.

The Health and Safety Executive has launched an investigation.

Terex said it would "work with both internal and external experts to investigate the cause of the accident".
