A COUNCILLOR has called for an end to paramilitary-style attacks after a man was shot in both legs in west Belfast.

The man was taken to hospital following the shooting at Ardmonagh Gardens in Turf Lodge at around 9pm on Saturday.

His injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

SDLP councillor Tim Attwood said there was no support in the community for such attacks.

"These kind of so called 'punishment style' attacks were wrong in the past and are wrong today," he said.

"We had all hoped that these kinds of attacks were confined to history.

"I would appeal for those responsible to stop and stop immediately. I would also appeal to the local community or anybody who knows anything about this attack to come forward to the PSNI to ensure this doesn't happen again."
