WEDDING bells tolled on Saturday for Down senior goalkeeper Stephen Kane.

The Kilcoo GAC star (28) married his childhood sweetheart Marie Claire Megoran at St Malachy’s Church, Kilcoo.

Following the service the two posed for photographs at his beloved Kilcoo club grounds.

Kilcoo GAC is one of the most successful clubs in Down and has won the Senior Football Championship for the past four years.

In 2015 Stephen was recognised for his performances when he won the O'Reilly Transport Ireland Club Down All Star award.

It is a busy week for Stephen, who is part of the Down panel that will take on Monaghan in the Ulster Senior Championship quarter final in Clones on Sunday. The Kilcoo goalkeeper is expected to start against the Farney men in the injury-enforced absence of Castlewellan shot-stopper Michael Cunningham.

Stephen and Marie Claire held their reception at Ballymascanlon House Hotel, Dundalk, Co Louth.

With Stephen’s football commitments and Marie Claire’s job as a primary school teacher the two will not celebrate their honeymoon until July 1.

The happy couple will travel to Florida, Las Vegas and Mexico.
