ARTIST Terry Bradley and writer Glenn Patterson were among mourners who attended the funeral of hairdresser David Aumonier (58) in Co Down.

Hundreds of family and friends, including Mr Aumonier's widow Lawrain, attended the service in First Presbyterian Church, Bangor on Thursday.

His children Paris and Davis were among those who paid tributes during the service.

Mr Aumonier, who had been ill with cancer, died on Tuesday morning.

A veteran of the business, he worked at Maude's in Connsbrook, east Belfast, in the 1970s.

Known affectionately as 'Mr Bangor', he styled the hair of the 1982 and 1986 Northern Ireland World Cup squads when their training base was at Clandeboye Road football ground.

Before the funeral, Lawrain Aumonier wrote: "I held David's hand for 30 years and it feels strange that I won't have that pleasure again".

"I will miss that protection he gave me and reassurance that I would be great and his pride in me when I nailed it," she wrote.

She added: "If you can't be there don't worry we understand completely. We are business people too xxx love to you all from me and my family."

Mr Aumonier is survived by his widow Lawrain and children Paris and Davis.
