THE funeral of a Co Tyrone man murdered at a pub in London is to take place today.

Edward Stokes (29), who was originally from Coalisland, will be buried in the town following Requiem Mass at noon at the Church of the Holy Family.

Mr Stokes was killed during a "large-scale fight" at The Army and Navy pub in New Barn Street, Newham, east London on Saturday March 19.

It is understood he was a member of the Travelling community and was married with a son.

It is thought he moved to London around four years ago after growing up in Coalisland.

His body arrived back at Belfast City Airport yesterday after post-mortem examinations in England.

Three other people were also treated for stab wounds following the incident, which has seen one man charged with murder and a further 10 people arrested and released on bail.

George Forde (22), of Barclay Road, Plaistow, will appear at the Old Bailey in London in June charged with murder and three counts of grievous bodily harm with intent, with a trial date set for August.

Metropolitan Police Detective Chief Inspector Cliff Lyons said: "While we have charged a man with Edward’s murder we are still appealing for witnesses as this was a large-scale fight in a pub – we shall not rest until we have identified all those that were involved.

"It is believed that two men involved in the attack fled the scene prior to the arrival of the emergency services being alerted and we are keen to trace them."

Inspector Lyons added: "Whilst we are aware that a fight broke out prior to these four males being injured, what instigated the fight resulting in the death of Edward is unclear at this stage and we are retaining an open mind."
