THREE fishermen on a Co Down based boat were rescued from the sea after an operation involving the Irish Coast Guard on Sunday.
Members of RNLI volunteer lifeboat crew at Clogherhead, in Co Louth, received a distress call from the boat at around 11.50am.
The fishing boat, which was based in Kilkeel, had encountered difficulties 25 miles east of Clogherhead.
In a statement, the RNLI said that the lifeboat crew was en route when it was informed that the Irish Coast Guard "had winched the three people from a life raft and were proceeding to hospital."
The Irish Coast Guard said the three fishermen were transported to hospital in Drogheda for treatment, with one of the trio reported to have suffered severe hypothermia.
