THE Irish Football Association has switched the dates for this year's Irish Cup semi-finals at the police's request.

Linfield's match against Lurgan Celtic in Windsor Park had been scheduled for the evening of Friday April 1 but it will now take place at 3pm on April 2.

Glenavon will now play Crusaders at 7.45pm on April 1.

In an unusual move, the PSNI had formally asked the Irish Football Association to switch the matches amid concerns of potential disorder and increased community tensions.

The Lurgan Celtic v Linfield match would have taken place on a Friday evening just days after the Easter 1916 centenary commemorations.

Chief Superintendent Chris Noble said: "We take a number of factors into consideration including any relevant recent history at sporting events and any up to date information so we can plan to minimise the potential for disorder".
