THE headstone of W T Cosgrave, the first leader of the Irish Free State, has been damaged at a cemetery in Dublin.

Mr Cosgrave's headstone, along with around a dozen Victorian and pre-Victorian monuments, were vandalised at the Goldenbridge Cemetery in Inchicore, Dublin.

Former Taoiseach Liam Cosgrave, son of W T, visited the cemetery yesterday.

The trustee of the cemetery, Glasnevin Trust, said gardaí were investigating.

In 2014 vandals damaged headstones at the cemetery, including Mr Cosgrave's.
