REALITY star Megan McKenna appears to have backtracked on controversial remarks she made about customers at a Co Tyrone nightclub and claims she loves the people of Northern Ireland.

The Celebrity Big Brother contestant provoked a social media backlash after calling customers of a Strabane nightclub "scum" before adding that they were "absolutely disgusting people".

Ms McKenna, also a star of Ex on the Beach, made the comments on Twitter amid claims that a bottle had been thrown during her appearance at Ruby's in Strabane.

The 23-year-old, who was making several appearances at clubs in the north over the weekend, is believed to have stormed out of the Strabane venue and afterwards took to Twitter to voice her outrage.

"F****ng worst place I've been in my life. So unprofessional. Security and staff were vile! Got no respect for people! @ RubysStrabane # scum," she tweeted.

But her outburst provoked a storm of criticism with some Twitter users, including an SDLP assembly member, who branded her comments as "outrageous".

Pat Ramsey tweeted: "Megan, you should reflect on these comments which are outrageous, uncalled for, not acceptable and untrue".

Another Twitter user wrote: "I think you are a disgrace slating us all who live in Strabane as scum. How dare you".

It appears the reaction has prompted Ms McKenna to re-think her remarks, with the reality star later deleting the tweet.

She also took to Twitter once again and wrote: "Love the people of Northern Ireland!!!! Just had a bad experience in one club in Strabane".
