THE PSNI have been consulted by gardaí as part of investigations into the gangland attack at a boxing weigh-in in Dublin, as it emerged one of the suspects is from Northern Ireland.

Officers from the Garda Crime and Security Unit are believed to have been in touch with serious crime detectives in the north as the hunt for the killers of David Byrne continues amid fears of further bloodshed.

One of the suspects is believed to be a man from Derry with a family connection to a crime gang.

His name is known to gardaí and a cross-border hunt is now underway.

More than 100 people were gathered at the boxing weigh-in when the shooting took place.

At least six people were involved in the attack, including three men wearing police swat-style uniforms, one wearing a peaked cap and another dressed as a woman.

On Monday taxi driver Eddie Hutch snr, a bother of former crime godfather Gerry 'The Monk' Hutch, was shot dead at his home in Dublin's north inner city in what is believed to have been a retaliatory attack on a soft target.

Meanwhile, four journalists working for Independent News and Media were warned yesterday they were under threat as a result of their coverage of the gangland feud.

The reporters were formally notified by An Garda Siochána that they were at risk and the company said it had decided to make the threats public "in order to highlight the danger posed to the media".

Editor-in-Chief Stephen Rae said: "This is an outrageous threat to the freedom of the press in Ireland and we are taking the threats with the utmost seriousness. The safety of our journalists is of paramount importance.
