Three separate attempted carjackings in Belfast city centre

POLICE are investigating three separate attempted hi-jackings in Belfast city centre.

During the first incident, at around 8.30pm on Monday, a woman preparing to exit York Parade onto York Road, was approached by a man with a scarf over his face who opened the driver's door of her car and attempted to pull her from the vehicle.

The woman managed to drive off onto York Road.

Police said that while the woman was not injured, she was left very badly shaken.

A short time later, at around 10pm, a blue motorcycle with two people on board entered a car park in Corporation Street.

One of the men then approached a car and ordered the driver to get out. He then tried to open the door of the car, however was unsuccessful and the man drove off.

An approach was then made to another driver in the car park. In this instance, his window was banged with a screwdriver however he managed to drive off.

It is believed both men left the area on a motorcycle in the direction of Thomas Street.

Police are investigating a possible link between the incidents in York Parade and Corporation Street.
