Thieves have stolen 50 I-Pads and 30 laptops during a break-in at an primary school in Antrim.

Staff arriving at St Joseph's Primary School on the Greystone Road yesterday morning found a number of windows had been broken and some window frames bent.

It is believed the school was targeted sometime between midnight on Tuesday and 2am yesterday.

The school was closed yesterday as work got underway to repair the damage.

Roisin Treacy, principal of St Joseph's, described it as a "blow to the whole community".

"The children were devastated and of course, parents and the community are devastated," she said.

"The parents volunteered and rolled up their sleeves and immediately helped to clean. They have been brilliant. We are a tight knit parish community.

"We will be back open (today) but we won't have the laptops for the Smartboards. We have an exceptionally skilled group of teachers and support staff and the children will be well taught as usual".

Police have appealed for information about the break-in.
