A CO Down singer who found fame on the BBC talent show Jesus Christ Superstar has appeared in court on child sex and voyeurism charges.

Jeff Anderson, who also performed on The Voice, faced 16 charges when he appeared before Downpatrick Magistrates Court.

The 25-year-old from Crawfordsburn Road, Newtownards, was among the final 10 singers to compete in the Andrew Lloyd Webber Westend musical show in 2012.

The singer did not win the part of Jesus in the show, but toured with the production as an understudy.

He also competed in the BBC singing talent show, The Voice in 2014, but failed to impress the celebrity judges Kylie Minogue, will.i.am, Ricky Wilson and Sir Tom Jones and did not make it past the audition stage.

Appearing in court on Monday, Mr Anderson applied to have his bail conditions changed to allow him to leave the UK for three weeks.

He is charged with theft, specifically stealing photographs in 2011, three counts of possessing an indecent image of a child in 2013 and two counts of indecent assault on children on dates between 2005 and 2007.

He also faces 10 counts of voyeurism on dates between August 2005 and August 2013.

An application was made for a bail variation to allow him to travel to the Republic for work from February 1 to 21.

However, a police officer objected to the change.

But Mr Anderson's solicitor Paul Dougan told the court that during the police investigation, which has lasted over two years, his client had travelled back to the north when requested.

He also said Mr Anderson was trying to secure employment in "different forms and areas".

The variation was granted and Mr Anderson was released on bail until March 8.
