NINE cars parked in two Co Tyrone villages were broken into at the weekend while the owners were attending church services.

Valuables were stolen from seven cars broken into on Saturday outside St Davog's Church in Dromore.

Another two cars were broken into and had items stolen from them later that evening in Aughnacloy.

One of the vehicles was in a church car park in the Main Street area, while the other was in a car park on Moore Street in the village.

The owner of the car on Moore Street found the driver's door open and items missing from the vehicle.

The break-ins in Dromore happened sometime between 7pm and 7.50pm, police said.

In Aughnacloy the Main Street incident happened between 8.30pm and 8.50pm while the Moore Street break-in happened at around 8pm.

PSNI Inspector Christian Bradley warned people not to leave valuables in vehicles.

"Thieves can often be opportunist and this simple crime prevention tip can deny them opportunities to steal."

He urged anyone who noticed any suspicious activity in the area contact officers in Omagh on the non-emergency number 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.

"Police are keen to speak to the driver of a red car, as they may be able to assist us with our enquiries," he added.
