A ROAD improvement scheme worth £160,000 is set to begin next week in north Belfast.

The roadworks, between Mount Vernon and Donegall Park Avenue on the Shore Road, will be carried out in three phases from January 30 to February 7.

Motorists are advised to expect some delays. Diversions will be in place and local access will be maintained.

Roads minister Michelle McIlveen described it as a "significant investment in north Belfast".

The DUP Strangford MLA said the works will "strengthen the road structure and deliver overall improvements to the carriageway surface".

The first phase, from 4pm on January 30 to 6am on February 1, will involve overnight closures for drainage work and other carriageway preparation.

Lane closures for carriageway work outside clearway hours will be in force between February 1 and February 5.

And the last phase until February 7 will require daily closures of that section of the road to facilitate the final surfacing between 7am and 8pm each day.
