DAVIE Bowie's body has been privately cremated in New York.

According to reports yesterday a cremation took place soon after the death of the 69-year-old singer, who passed away on Sunday following an 18-month battle with cancer.

It was reported that in line with his wishes, no family or friends were present at the ceremony.

A publicist for the singer yesterday said that they were "neither confirming nor denying" the reports.

Meanwhile, there were also reports that the singer had been planning another album, on the back of his latest release, Blackstar, before his death.

The star's friend and producer, Tony Visconti told Rolling Stone magazine that around a week before his death, the singer called him and told him he wanted to make a final album, revealing he had already written and demoed five new songs.

Tony Visconti said: "At that late stage, he was planning the follow-up to Blackstar. I was thrilled, and I thought, and he thought, that he'd have a few months, at least. Obviously, if he's excited about doing his next album, he must've thought he had a few more months."

It has also been revealed that a tribute to David Bowie will take place at next month's Brit Awards, with a performance celebrating the "extraordinary life and work of one of our greatest icons".

The news came as Blackstar looked set to become the singer's first number one album in the US, after sales surged following news of his death.
