Three remain in police custody following Co Antrim murder

POLICE are continuing to question three men following the death of a man who was assaulted outside the Elk Inn in Toomebridge, Co Antrim.

James McDonagh, who was from Castledawson, suffered a head injury when he was assaulted outside the club on the Hillhead Road in the early hours of Sunday.

The 28-year-old, who was a member of the Travelling community, died in the Royal Victoria Hospital in Belfast on Monday.

Three men aged 20, 24 and 52 were arrested on Sunday night in the Toomebridge area.

The 20-year-old man was later released on bail pending further enquiries.

A court on Tuesday granted police a further 36 hours to question the other two men.

Another man, aged 41-year-old man was arrested on Monday night in relation to the murder.

All three remain in police custody.
