David Bowie's ex-wife, Angie Bowie yesterday decided to remain cut off from the world inside the Celebrity Big Brother house despite learning of the death of the singer.

As news of the musical icon's death broke, Channel 5 said the 66-year-old former model, who has been taking part in the reality show since last Tuesday, would be informed of her ex-husband's death "off camera today at the earliest opportunity".

Later, the channel revealed that the American celebrity had been given the news "by her representatives" however it added that the CBB contestant had "taken the decision to continue on the programme".

"The decision to remain in the house is entirely her choice, and she has been given the option to leave at any time if she changes her mind. Appropriate support will be available to Angie at any time if needed".

Married for 10 years between 1970 and 1980, Angie Bowie and David Bowie had a son together called Zowie, who later changed his name to Duncan.

An award-winning film-maker and screenwriter, Duncan has reportedly been estranged from his mother since he was 13.

While in the house, Angie Bowie has discussed her failed marriage to the singer, revealing she had not seen him for 40 years and had gone to "great lengths to avoid him".
