AN HOAX bomb planted under a PSNI officer's car was "not sinister", police have said.

However, a spokeswoman could not give any more details about the targetting of the car in Dundonald on the outskirts of east Belfast on Wednesday.

There has been condemnation for those responsible for the attack.

Concern over the potential bomb led army technical experts to carry out a controlled explosion on the object in the Millreagh housing development.

The object had been found at around 8pm and the area was immediately cordoned off by police and officers remained at the scene late into the night.

However, it was later declared to have been a hoax.

But, TUV Lisburn and Castlereagh City councillor Andrew Girvin said the security alert was "something all true democrats will condemn".

"Those who partner in government an organisation which remains inextricably linked to a terrorist organisation should be prompted once again to reflect upon their actions," he added.
