A NURSING home has been given 43 days to raise its standards after a third successive highly critical inspection report.

The Regulation and Quality Improvement Authority (RQIA) has issued proceedings against Kingsway Private Nursing Home in Dunmurry after its inspection team found concerns over the quality of food, hydration and how information is recorded at the home.

It has until February 11 to take action, when inspector will return to assess what changes have been made.

It is understood that if they are not satisfied the RQIA has the power to halt admittances to it or even close the home.

The latest critical report is the third in less than 12 months and found a "lack of attention to patients' choice, privacy and dignity".

It highlighted the sharing of underwear between residents and was critical of communication between staff members and the attitude of some towards residents.

A spokesman for the RQIA said "safety and wellbeing of every patient at Kingsway is of paramount importance" to them.

Care Circle, which runs the nursing home, said it had "made progress and further actions are currently receiving attention".
