EXTENSIVE searches were underway in Co Antrim for a 61-year-old man who has been missing for several days.

George Jamieson, from the seaside village of Ballintoy, has not been in contact with friends or family since Saturday.

He was last seen driving a silver Mercedes SLK convertible.

Land and sea searches for Mr Jamieson yesterday focused on the area around Ballintoy harbour.

Police and the coastguard were involved in the searches.

A police spokesman said: "Police on the north coast are appealing for help in tracing a man who has not been seen since Saturday.

"Sixty-one-year-old George Jamieson had been staying in the Ballintoy area and has not been in contact with family or friends since Saturday, however, this was not reported to police until December 22.

"Police understand that this is out of character for George and are concerned for his well-being.

"George is described as being 6ft tall, of heavy build, with fair hair, a goatee beard, and blue eyes."
