RESIDENTS of a Belfast homeless hostel will get free entry into Cliftonville Premiership games at Solitude for the rest of the season.

The north Belfast club announced yesterday that men living in Morning Star House on Divis Street, close to the city centre, can benefit from free tickets.

Many men living in the hostel suffer from mental health problems and are struggling with alcohol or drug issues.

Residents who have shown they are committed to taking part in rehabilitation programmes will be given free tickets.

Graeme Beggs, from the NI Football League, said the project started when the hostel asked for tickets to some Cliftonville games.

"From what started as a simple request from Morning Star House for access to some games has turned into something much more than that with Cliftonville providing season tickets for the remainder of the season," he said.

"Our clubs have always been very supportive of local communities and charities and this is another example of their generosity."

Paddy McKeown from Morning Star House said he was delighted some residents could be rewarded.

"I think this is a great initiative," he said.

"Some of our guests have struggled with drug or alcohol addictions and anything that can help the guests refrain from using these is a bonus.

"It will give those guests something to look forward to each week, get away from the hostel setting and help in the rehabilitation of those taking part.

"I wish to take the opportunity to sincerely thank Graeme Beggs and also the Danske Bank Premiership Clubs who have got involved in the initiative."
