ATTORNEY General John Larkin is to remain in post until May 2019.

First Minister Peter Robinson and deputy First Minister Martin McGuinness have extended Mr Larkin's appointment for a second time.

He was first appointed as chief legal adviser to the Stormont Executive in May 2010.

In 2014 he was reappointed for a further two years. His term of office was due to last until next June but has now been extended until May 2019.

Mr Robinson and Mr McGuinness have told the executive of their decision.

Last month, Mr Larkin said he was "profoundly disappointed" by the High Court's ruling that the north's abortion breaches the human rights of pregnant women in cases of fatal foetal abnormalities or as a result of a sex crime.

He said he was "considering the grounds for appeal".
