A COMPANY which supplies food to aircraft at Belfast City Airport has been fined £500 for hygiene offences.

Flightcare Multi Services UK Ltd, which is part of Swissport and runs many outlets worldwide, was prosecuted by Belfast City Council for breaching food hygiene regulations.

The council took a case against the company following a visit by an environmental health officer in October 2014.

The company was fined £200 for failing to keep food premises clean and maintained in good repair and condition, the council said yesterday.

It was also fined £300 for failing to provide wash hand basins and hand drying facilities; failing to ensure that the construction of food premises allowed good food hygiene practices, and failing to ensure that food was protected against contamination at all stages of food production.

The company was also ordered to pay £66 in costs.
