GOLFER Rory McIlroy confirmed his engagement to girlfriend Erica Stoll as his fianceé showed off a large diamond ring at a charity ball.

Ms Stoll, who works for the PGA, accompanied her boyfriend to Titanic Belfast as the Paddy Wallace Fund for Autism held its first official Christmas Ball on Thursday night.

McIlroy (26), from Holywood, Co Down, walked the red carpet and chatted to former rugby star Paddy Wallace and actor James Nesbitt.

Ms Stoll (27) did not pose for pictures on the red carpet but was seen showing the ring to McIlroy's father Gerry, who attended with wife Rosie.

According to earlier reports, McIlroy recently proposed in Paris. The couple have been together for more than a year.

McIlroy was previously engaged to tennis star Caroline Wozniacki after proposing in Sydney in 2013.

The golfer later called off the engagement after wedding invites had been sent out.

The autism fund, set up by former Ireland and Ulster rugby player Wallace and his wife Tina, aims to raise awareness of autism and support families affected by the disorder.

Other people who attended the ball included Northern Ireland soccer manager Michael O’Neill, rugby star Tommy Bowe, Tyrone GAA manager Mickey Harte and North Antrim MP, the DUP's Ian Paisley Jnr.
