A SOUTH Belfast GAA club is hosting a ‘movies’ night with a twist as part of a massive fundraising drive.

Bredagh GAC has already sold 1,000 tickets to its ‘Oskars’ show, in which scenes from famous films including The Full Monty, The Godfather, Forrest Gump and The Snapper are acted out by more than 50 club members.

The coverage has been recorded and will be shown on huge screens in the Whitla Hall at Queen’s University Belfast this Saturday evening – with teams vying for a coveted award.

Performances from the musicals West Side Story and Hairspray will also be carried out live on stage on the night.

Bredagh club chairman Aidan McKegney said the event had taken months to organise and had involved members from their teens to their sixties.

“Last year we did a Strictly night and raised £50,000. We wanted to make it an even bigger event this year and do something a bit different. We’ve had lot of practice runs and hopefully it will all go to plan,” he said.

“It’s not just a going to be a big fundraiser for our new club hall but also a fantastic social occasion for the whole Bredagh club and the local community.”

Some tickets are still available. For details, call Paul Blaney on 078 8561 9616 or go to bredaghgac.com.
