THE body of one of the two men killed on a building site in Australia was last night returned home to his devastated family in Co Derry.

Gerry Bradley's remains were brought back from Perth just over a week after he died alongside friend Joe McDermott from Omagh, Co Tyrone.

Mr McDermott's remains are due to arrive in Dublin at noon on Friday.

The two men were killed when a concrete slab fell on them at a construction site on November 25.

They had been on a work break when the tragic accident happened.

Mr Bradley (29) had been in Australia for nearly two years, while Mr McDermott (24) had only moved to the country just weeks ago to begin a new life.

The funeral of Mr Bradley, who was from Coleraine, is due to take place on Saturday.

Requiem Mass will be celebrated in St Malachy's Church in the Co Derry town at noon, followed by burial at Coleraine Cemetery.

In a statement on Thursday night, his family said they "wanted to thank everyone who has sent messages of support and visited us in an extremely tough week".

Mr McDermott's funeral will take place on Monday morning.

Requiem Mass will be celebrated at 10am in Sacred Heart Church in Omagh.

The pair's deaths brought to nine the number of Irish deaths in the Perth area in just three weeks.
