TWO men have been shot in a pigeon club in the Broadway area of west Belfast.

The men were shot in their legs in the Iveagh Street premises of the Grosvenor Homing Pigeon Club, off the Falls Road.

The attack was reported to have taken place shortly before 4pm.

The victims "have received gunshot injuries to their legs and have been taken to hospital for treatment", the PSNI said.

Sinn Fein councillor Ciaran Beattie condemned the shooting.

"It is absolutely reckless to go into a public bar in a busy area of west Belfast in the middle of the afternoon and shoot people," he said.

"Those responsible showed a complete disregard for the community by their actions and this incident could have been even worse.

"There can be no place for guns in our society and these type of shootings need to stop immediately."
