A STUN gun and £4,500 worth of cocaine were seized from a house in east Belfast at the weekend.

A 22 year old man, who had been arrested at the property at Bryson Street in the Short Strand on Saturday, has been released on bail pending further enquiries.

A firearm, thought to be a blank firing pistol, was also recovered along with a quantity of blank ammunition.

Sinn Féin councillor Niall Ó Donnghaile welcomed the removal of the drugs.

Councillor Ó Donnghaile said: "Firstly I welcome the removal of such a large quantity of drugs and other dangerous items from our streets. The community in the Short Strand reject totally those who would try and pollute our area with such blatant disregard."

"This is precisely the type of proactive policing the community this area support. We want a safer neighbourhood where those who would try to contaminate our young people with drugs are taken off the streets."
