POLICE have sealed off an area of Limavady following the discovery of a suspicious object.

The Leighery Road was closed between Duncrun Road and Bishop’s Road in the Co Derry town on Thursday afternoon.

The alert comes hours after a viable bomb was discovered at Feeney close to Dungiven and within days of a major security alert at Drumsurn, outside Limavady.

The area around Carnanbane Road outside Feeney was closed off for a day after a device was found on Wednesday.

Following a controlled explosion, police confirmed the device had been a viable bomb.

The Feeney alert continued overnight on Wednesday. However all roads were re-opened on Thursday morning.

Police chief, John Magill said the Feeney and Drumsurn operations had caused widespread disruption in a rural community.

Chief Superintendent Magill said: “The last thing people need is the recklessness and disruption created by these incidents.”
