DAVID Cameron has left himself open to accusations of "hypocrisy" after writing to the Conservative leader of his local council bemoaning proposed service cuts, according to reports.

The Prime Minister, who is also the MP for Witney, reportedly wrote to Ian Hudspeth, the leader of Oxfordshire County Council, to outline his disappointment "at the long list of suggestions floated to make significant cuts to frontline services".

In the letter, reported by the Oxford Mail, the PM urged the authority to protect frontline services and make "back-office savings".

Critics have pointed out that Mr Cameron has overseen significant cuts to local government budgets during his time as Prime Minister.

The leader of the Labour group on the county council, Liz Brighouse, told the Oxford Mail that Mr Cameron's letter was "high-handed and arrogant".
