A WEST Belfast man has admitted causing unnecessary suffering to two dogs in his care.

John Paul Magee also accepted failing to take reasonable steps to ensure the animals' needs were met.

The defendant, of unknown age, was prosecuted over the condition of boxer and terrier dogs kept at his Gortnamona Way home.

Charges against a co-accused were withdrawn at Belfast Magistrates' Court.

The case was brought by the city council after members of its animal welfare team carried out an inspection in June last year.

No further details were disclosed in court.

However, it is understood that the two dogs have since been re-homed.

Magee is due back in court for sentencing next month.
