A 47-YEAR-OLD man arrested by police investigating the murder of Kevin McGuigan has been released.

The man, whose arrest was the first in the case in over a month, was detained in west Belfast on Monday evening but was released yesterday afternoon pending a report to the Public Prosecution Service.

Mr McGuigan (53) was shot dead outside his home at Comber Court in the Short Strand area of east Belfast in August.

Police said they believed current or former Provisional IRA members were involved.

A total of 17 people have so far been arrested over the murder, with all but one released.

Patrick John Fitzpatrick (53), from the Lagmore area of west Belfast, appeared at Lisburn Magistrates Court in August charged with possessing a pistol with intent to endanger life.
