A RALLY in support of junior doctors is to be held at Belfast City Hall.

Trade union Unison has organised the demonstration on Saturday in protest at planned changes to junior doctors' contracts.

The union claimed the changes would mean there no safeguard to prevent doctors working more than 100 hours a week.

A spokesman said: "Unison health workers who have taken to the picket line against cuts earlier this year applaud the determination of young medics not only to stand up for themselves but in so doing protect safe practices in health care.

"The stance taken by the Tory health ministers on this issue shows very clearly that they do not value the workforce in the NHS or the wellbeing of its patients and clients.

"We have had clear examples of similar neglect by the current absence of (the) Northern Ireland health minister."

The union said NHS workers in the north are still waiting for a recommended 2014/15 one per cent pay rise and there is no offer for the 2015/16 year.

The rally will take place at 2pm.
