A CHURCH  hall which has been an inner city landmark for decades has closed indefinitely.

St Kevin's Hall on North Queen Street in Belfast belongs to nearby St Patrick's Parish Church, which this year celebrates its bicentenary.

It has long been a busy community hub, but is located in part of north Belfast which is undergoing major change, following the demolition of a PSNI station to make way for homes and proposals to build accommodation for thousands of students at an expanding Ulster University campus.

A spokesman for the diocese of Down and Connor confirmed the church hall is no longer in use.

"There have been no decisions taken in terms of the future use of St Kevin's Hall," he said.

"Currently, an assessment of the building is under way to examine its state of repair."
