Northern Ireland’s latest boxing heroes have been saluted at Belfast city hall during a special ceremony.

Lord Mayor Arder Carson paid tribute to the "fantastic achievements" of Stephen McKenna, James McGivern, Aidan Walsh, Tiernan Bradley and Brett Ginty during a reception in their honour yesterday.

The five, who won three gold medals and two silver, have just returned from Samoa, an island in the South Pacific, where they were part of the team representing Northern Ireland in the Commonwealth Youth Games.

Sixteen athletes took part in the games from the north in events including swimming, boxing, athletics, squash and lawn bowls.

The Northern Ireland team brought home a total of four gold, four silver and four bronze medals, the team’s highest ever total in the games.
