A TALENTED Belfast baker who shot to fame over 'bin-gate' on The Great British Bake-Off last year has returned to his day job - as a builder.

Iain Watters, who featured on the popular BBC baking show last year, had been a favourite on the show before he faced a dessert disaster in the last series.

During one episode viewed by 10 million fans, the Irish man dumped his entire Baked Alaska in the bin after it had mistakenly been left out of the freezer and melted.

However a year on from the BBC One show, the 32-year-old has been spotted doing a different type of layering – on a building site.

Students attending the Queen Mary University of London campus in east London noticed the well-known baker on their way to class.

Wearing a trademark hard hat and high-visibility vest, Iain revealed to student newspaper, The Tab that he had been “really busy lately with different building projects ..."

"I have had quite a few tweets from different people on the campus who have spotted me,” he added.

"I’m working on the campus for Sykes & Son and I’m undertaking construction works on the Q-motion gym and library building."

However, the reality star revealed that he still bakes now and again.

"I made a Baked Alaska straight after the show for Macmillan Cancer Research and again recently," he said.

"I still love baking and bake about two or three times a week."

Still a fan of the show, Iain predicted either Tamal or Nadiya to win this year’s series.

"A really high standard of baking has been set this year and the contestants are continuing to impress."
