A 65-year-old farmer died and his twin brother was injured after they were attacked by a bull in Co Donegal.

The man who died was injured at about 2pm in a field at Toulette in Burt on the Inishowen Peninsula.

The farmer had left his home yesterday morning and when he did not return his twin went looking for him.

It is understood that when the twin went to help his brother he was attacked by the same bull. He was being treated at Letterkenny General Hospital last night.

The men are well known in the Burt area and farm land close to the Grianan of Aileach hill fort.

Paul Canning, a Fianna Fáil councillor, said there was deep upset at the tragedy.

"It will take the heart out of the area completely for a few days. It's very sad what has happened here, and how it happened," he said.

The Health and Safety Authority and gardaí are investigating.
