An Irish boxing champion has added crime fighting to his list of achievements after chasing down two thieves in Belfast city centre.

Sean McComb, who is due to compete in the World Boxing Championships in Qatar next month, sprinted to the aid of a man and a woman targeted in separate street robberies.

The 23-year-old, who is a two-time senior Irish boxing champion, had been working his day job with tour bus firm City Sightseeing Belfast near the city hall on Sunday morning.

The west Belfast man was nearby when a thief snatched a woman’s purse while she was standing at a bus stop.

Immediately the young boxer gave chase.

"The girl was helpless. I just said to myself `I may as well have a go’. I chased him the whole way through the town," he said.

Sean, who trains twice a day, five days a week, retrieved the woman’s belongings from the robber, who was "gasping for air" when caught.

But after returning to work, he was faced with `round two’ within an hour, when a thief stole a mobile phone from a man who was taking a photo outside the city hall.

"I was like `Not again, this can’t be happening again’, he said.

The Holy Trinity boxer once again gave chase and when the thief dropped the phone, he returned it to its owner.

Mr McComb later joked in a tweet that the PSNI should start paying him a salary for his good deeds.

"I normally wouldn’t get involved in any of that stuff - I thought I might as well give a hand here," he said.
