A NEW victims group has been set up to investigate Troubles-related killings.

Loyalist campaigner Willie Frazer confirmed last night he is one of the men behind the Family Research and Policy Unit.

He said the group will look unsolved killings and includes former police officers and people from legal backgrounds.

Based in Markethill, Co Armagh, Mr Frazer said it is dealing with a mixture of cases including those brought by the families of security force members killed during the Troubles.

“We are working on cases were people are not happy with the results, there was no investigation,” he said.

He said some families from a unionist background believe they may have been lied to by state agencies about the deaths of loved ones to protect informers.

“Some families were told there is nothing there and we can’t catch these people,” he said.

“They knew all along and in some cases allowed them to run free."

He added that where new evidence is uncovered the group will “go to the police”.

“If there is no evidence in a case we will say there is nowhere we can go with this.”
