THE family of a west Belfast man who broke his back on holiday have thanked well-wishers after they received more than £5,000 in donations.

Sean Paul McCabe (20), who had no travel insurance, dived into the shallow end of a swimming pool during his holiday in Ibiza.

His family, from Hannahstown on the outskirts of west Belfast, were told they must pay £20,000 to fly Sean home or face a five-week stay on the Spanish island.

Within a day, the family's £5,000 target had been met.

In a message on their gofundme.com page the family said the response had been "unbelievable".

"Maybe Sean Paul will be home sooner than expected thanks to all your generosity," they wrote.
