THOUSANDS of music fans descended on Belfast over the weekend for one of the biggest outdoor festivals the city has seen for years.

The Script, who have performed all over the world, returned to Belfast for the first time since 2013 to headline the festival last night.

The Irish rockers had the crowd singing and dancing with some of their most popular hits including Hall of Fame and Superheroes.

They were joined by Kodaline, Clean Bandit, Annie Mac and Jack Savoretti on the final day of the massive music festival.

DJ Calvin Harris and pop princess Ellie Goulding took to the stage on the first day of the event, Saturday, with reports that the music could be heard across many parts of Belfast.

Around 40,000 people filled the venue to watch the award-winning Scottish DJ perform his Outside set with included pyrotechnics and lasers.

Fans appeared to especially enjoy the DJ’s hit We Found Love, for which singer Rihanna filmed the video in north Belfast.

The DJ also played several of his most popular chart hits including You Got The Love and Feel So Close.

Goulding impressed with her performances of her most popular songs which included Anything Could Happen and Love Me Like You Do, made famous by the Fifty Shades of Grey film.

The 28-year-old songstress also had fans singing along to Lights and Figure Eight as well as crowd favourite Starry Eyed.

John Newman, Disciples and Burns also performed on Saturday at the south Belfast venue, which featured an 80-metre bar stretching across the site.

A significant police operation was in operation throughout the two days. Specialist drug detection dogs were deployed.

It was unclear how many arrests were made at the event.

Last night a police spokesman said the data would be collated at the end of the two-day festival.
