IRELAND'S oldest market fair welcomed thousands of visitors once again yesterday to the Co Antrim seaside town of Ballycastle.

Horse trading drew many of the crowds who lined the main streets as the weather was kind during the first day of the Auld Lammas Fair.

Others enjoyed the street entertainment, took a ride on the ferris wheel, or browsed the hundreds of stalls, with many day-trippers tucking into bags of sticky yellowman and dulse.

For the fourth year in a row, stall-holders from Belfast's St George's Market displayed their wares including crafts and home-made cakes.

The fair has welcomed traders since the 17th century.
