EXAMINATIONS are set to be carried out on a car allegedly driven by an Orangeman charged with two attempted murders, a court heard yesterday.
John Aughey (61) is accused of trying to kill a teenage girl and a woman amid heightened tensions at a north Belfast flashpoint last month.
The pair were injured when they were struck by a car in the nationalist Ardoyne area on July 13.
The 16-year-old girl suffered multiple broken bones in the collision, including a shattered pelvis.
She had been trapped under the vehicle before local residents and police at the scene managed to free her.
The incident occured on the Crumlin Road as disorder broke out on nearby streets over a banned Orange parade.
Aughey, of Brae Hill Park in the city, was released on bail following his first appearance before Belfast Magistrates' Court last month.
At the time a defence lawyer said what happened was "highly regrettable and regretted" by his client.
Aughey returned to the dock yesterday for an update in the case.
A PSNI constable confirmed that the car would be examined today and "there are still a number of statements outstanding."
Defence counsel Richard McConkey then sought an adjournment to allow further progress.
Acknowledging the seriousness of the case, District Judge Fiona Bagnall listed it for another mention on October 7.
At that stage a full update is to be provided.
