A WOMEN'S Poc Fada competition has been hit by further controversy following confusion over who actually won.

The All-Ireland Poc Fada competition was held at Annavera Mountain outside Dundalk in Co Louth on Saturday.

However, it was initially unclear whether Patricia Jackman, from Waterford, or Galway's Catriona Daly had won the senior camogie title.

The competition referee had already left the mountain before the official announcement and could not be immediately contacted.

The Camogie Association decided to defer announcing the winner until last night. Jackman, who completed the course in 27 pocs 34 metres, was confirmed as the winner last night.

She narrowly beat Daly, who finished in 27 pocs 32 metres.

Down camog Catherine McGourty finished third on 29pocs 6metres.

The association will hold an awards ceremony for the camogie winners.

The row came just weeks after McGourty, who won the Ulster Poc Fada competition, accused the GAA of sexism.

The male winner of the Ulster competition won a skiing holiday as a prize - while Ms McGourty only got a medal.

The All-Ireland senior men's Poc Fada competition was won by former Tipperary hurling goalkeeper Brendan Cummins, who clinched a fifth successive national title.
