Police have carried out a leaflet drop in two areas in Derry as part of their investigation into the murder of civil servant, Paul McCauley.
Uniformed police officers distributed a leaflet seeking information about the 38-year-old's death in the Fountain estate and Irish Street area yesterday morning.
Mr McCauley died on June 6 after remaining in a persistent vegetative state since he was the victim of a sectarian assault nine years ago. Along with two friends, he was attending a summer barbecue in the city's Waterside when he was attacked by a group of up to 15 people who made off towards Irish Street.
Officers carried out door-to-door inquiries as they distributed the leaflet yesterday. As well as a picture of Mr McCauley, the leaflet appealed to anyone who was in the Irish Street, Bann Drive or Chapel Road areas on the night of the attack, July 16 2006.
Two men arrested in connection with the investigation earlier this week have been released. One of the men, Alex McClements (46) from Derry’s Fountain estate is the stepfather of Piper John McClements (24) - formerly known as Daryl Proctor - who has been charged with Mr McCauley's murder.
Mr McClements senior was released pending a report to the Public Prosecution Service.
