Detectives investigating a sex assault on a teenage girl in a Co Antrim seaside town almost a year ago have released pictures of two potential witnesses to the attack.

The 17 year old girl was sexually assaulted by two men at a car park in Dunluce Road of Portrush, sometime between 1.30am and 2am on August 28.

The attackers ran off when a woman who was passing shouted at the men and came to the aid of the young victim.

Detectives have now issued a photo of two men they believe may also have been witnesses to the incident.

The photo of pair was taken in Kelly's nightclub during the last week of August.

The attack happened close to the popular nightclub and police believe the men may have been witnesses or be able to provide vital information in relation to the assault.

Detective Sergeant Jenny Carson said police do not believe the two men were involved in the attack but would like to speak to them as part of their wider enquiries.

"We are investigating a serious crime and we believe these two young men may have witnessed the incident," she said.

"We do not believe they were involved but we would like to identify them so that we can progress the investigation. I would ask these men, or anyone who recognises them, to contact police so that our enquiries can be progressed".

Anyone with information can contact police on the non-emergency number 101 or use the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
